Urban Ethnic Enclaves
A story that I originally conceived as a report on everyday life in urban neighborhoods best known for their crime rates surprised me by turning into an examination of how and why certain populations find themselves concentrated within enclaves in the first place. Each group and neighborhood has it’s own, ever-evolving histories and politics. The images presented here of Toronto’s Jamestown Crescent and Halifax’s Uniacke Square are only the start of a much larger project that will consider the ideas of ethnicity, nationality and “belonging” in a multicultural North America.
